New Kid on the Block

The Prides have welcomed a new member to our family.  Meet Skylar...................

Skylar is Katie's golden retriever puppy.  She has wanted a dog of her own since she was 7 years old.  As parents, we felt that she would need to be at least 10 to take proper care of one.  So for her 10th birthday, she unwrapped presents that consisted of:  A doggy bed, leash and collar set, puppy training book, and some puppy toys.  We let her visit the Human Society and scheduled appointments with several breeders to make the puppy decision herself.

The photo of Skylar and Katie is at the breeder's home, when Skylar was 7+ weeks old.  Unfortunately, Katie had to wait a full week to take her home, as we were scheduled for vacation that next week.

Here she is at 10 weeks.  Beginning to look lighter, like her Mom, but definitely still puppy like.

We tried taking some "formal" puppy photos of Skylar, but...............well, she's a puppy.  What can I say except that I have a new respect for pet photographers.

We have bought Skylar expensive dog toys.  But truthfully, her favorite toys are an empty plastic bottle, and old tennis ball, and a plastic pitcher that I use to water house plants.  Go figure.

The other animals wanted their photos taken, even if Skylar was not interested at all.

Shadow was the first one to investigate the photo area that I had set up outside.  He is generally good about having his photo taken.

Winston also curled up in the chair outside while we were chasing down Skylar.  So I took a few photos of the old man of the house.  For the most part, he's been indifferent to Skylar, as long as she doesn't jump on him while he is sleeping.

Girl Cat was no where to be seen while the photos were being taken.  So here is a photo of her, in her younger days, at our previous house, relaxing on the ledge of the bathtub.  It was a favorite spot of hers.

And as a bonus, Katie spotted this hummingbird sitting calmly on a branch of the pink dogwood tree.  It was the first time that I had ever seen one just resting.
