I must note, that my lovely 8 year old really does LOVE school. But she does not, nor probably ever will, enjoy getting up early. Since Paul and I are both extreme night owls, I suppose that this is a combination of both nurture AND nature for her. It's in her genes. And this morning, written on her face.
In our neighborhood, Katie is surrounded by people who love her. And that includes any number of folks who consistently are a part of her first day of school each year. Miss Brooke is always there with a hug for Katie as she walks up the cul de sac to the bus stop.
This year we snuck out early for the bus and photos. But Miss Brooke called her back for a hug and rushed to catch her before the bus arrived. Katie ran to her--even with that heavy backpack on her, laden with school supplies. So sweet. Can't miss any of those first day of school hugs!
Just a few days ago, Katie indulged me and posed for a few photos to commemorate the start of her 8th year. With LOTS of balloons.
She wore the new dress that Grandma made for her.
And really enjoyed the balloons.
Did I mention that there were lots of balloons? And one silly girl?
This photo reminds me of a shampoo commercial from the 1970's.
Afterwards, we took 8 of our balloons and let them loose into the sky, one by one. We stood and watched them until they were only tiny dots in the clouds. We videotaped their journey and discussed all the fun adventures that they might have travelling far from our little cul de sac.
