Spring Break on the Island

This year has been a horrible winter.  So the Prides just had to get away to someplace WARM!

And nothing is better than Hilton Head Island in the spring.  Especially getting up before civil dawn to catch an amazing sunrise.  Those clouds!

We spent as much time as possible on the beach.  Swimming AND napping.

This little guy walked right past our beach blanket on his way to the ocean.  We were so happy to see the little guy.  Adorable.

We saw an amazing amount of beautiful egrets that week.  Here is one hanging out in one of the tidal pools at low tide.

This one was photographed at Magnolia Plantation several hours North of Hilton Head Island, just outside of Charleston.

The first morning that Katie and I walked to the beach for sunrise, we saw this large grouping of egrets hanging out together, far down the beach from our condo.  It was a bit of a walk, but well worth it.

Katie loved the small zoo at the plantation.  Especially the tame deer.  This one gave her a big old kiss.

Lots of live oaks and Spanish moss along the path to the river.

And peacocks GALORE.  About a dozen running around.

This guy shook his feathers at me, just as I clicked the shutter.  I rather like the effect.

My favorite was the gardens at the plantation.  I really, really want my own red bridge now.

The "Swamp Tour" originally sounded lame, but it turned out rather nicely.  More to see in the swamp than you might imagine.

Generally, the water was covered with Duckweed, although a few spots like this one only had patches.  Makes for a nice reflection if you can find a clearing.

In addition to the red bridge, the plantation was also host to "The White Bridge".  It was bigger and longer; however, it didn't have the pizazz of the red bridge.  IMHO.

No trip to Savannah, even for just an afternoon, is complete without a stop at the Juliette Gordon Low house.  Birthplace of the Girl Scouts.  This is Juliette's Debutante painting.

And here is a photograph of her later in life.

We had hoped to take in more of the sights and architecture of the city, but that was not to be.  We had to wait several hours for our turn to tour the Birthplace of Girl Scouts which really broke up our day.  Still, we walked around the square and around a few blocks in the older sections of town.  Love, love, love all the wrought iron.

One of the better sunrises during our visit.  So much color.

Almost every 10 minutes the color of the sunrise changes in its intensity.

Not long after the brilliant sunrise colors hit their peak, and the colors begin to fade.

I love the reflective quality of the water so early in the day.  There is generally very little wind at sunrise, so the best water pictures are to be had by the early birds only.

Here the colors have already lost their vibrance, but the clouds are still amazing.

But once the sun is up, fun photos can still be had, like a star burst off the edge of the pier.

Lots of love from the beach...................
